- W8410618 abstract "POLYURIA accompanied by changes in the composition of plasma and urine has been reported in vitamin A-deficient heifers (Woelfel et al., 1965) and vitamin A-deficient wethers (Webb et al., 1968). Altered adrenal metabolism was offered as a possible explanation for the wether data. The experiment reported here continued this area of investigation with the following specific objectives: (1) to determine if vitamin A deficiency produces a pattern of changes in the composition of plasma and urine of ewes similar to that previously observed in wethers, (2) to study the effects of various stages of vitamin A depletion on plasma and urine composition and (3) to perform exploratory assays on plasma and urine for hormones related to adrenal metabolism. Experimental Procedure Seven crossbred ewes were fed 908 g of the vitamin A depletion ration previously described (Webb, Mitchell and Little, 1970) and seven were fed this ration supplemented with 3,122 IU vitamin A palmitate per kg of ration." @default.
