- W846524716 abstract "This study was designed to provide information con cerning the interpersonal relationships of suicidal gesture patients and the effects of interaction by emergency room personnel. Ten females aged twenty to thirty years were interviewed in their homes from three to twenty-eight days after the occurrence of the suicidal gesture. All subjects admitted suicidal intentions and all subjects were able to recall all or most of their emergency room experience. The interviews were tape recorded and then heard by a vali dating committee of three registered emergency room nurses who used a tool for categorizing and listing the data. The findings showed that these subjects felt their needs were met in the emergency room setting. The most significant or helpful person described by most subjects was the doctor or nurse. The most significant or helpful services provided by the personnel dealt with the subject's emotional needs. Strong interpersonal relationships were common to most of the subjects; however, the person involved in such a rela tionship was not generally a person within the subject's household. Persons in the household were often involved in the on-going and precipitating events which prompted the suicidal gesture. vii" @default.
