- W84760774 abstract "Simulated annealing offers tremendous flexibility in the kind of information that can be honoured in a conditional simulation. Several researchers have shown that the speed of annealing (and, therefore, its practical utility) is related to whether or not the energy function used by the annealing procedure can be readily updated. If it is readily updateable, and does not have to be recalculated from scratch, annealing can be as fast as other commonly used geostatistical techniques for conditional simulation. Change of support is a critical concern in all areas of geostatistical application. Through training images and exhaustive data sets, it is possible to build histograms that describe how the change of support will affect a random function. In some applications, such as mining, one has direct access to observations at different levels of support. This information can be fed directly into an annealing procedure so that the resulting realization has the correct behaviour under change of support. This approach to spatial simulation is computationally fast, since the statistics are easy to update, and pedagogically simple, since the support effect is a concept that is readily understood. Though it does not explicitly incorporate variogram information, it does honour two-point statistics implicitly through change of support statistics." @default.
