- W851034213 abstract "This chapter explores how the notion of sovereignty moulds understanding of the relationship between people, territory, and authority, a thorough appreciation of which is crucial in order to address the way in which national states respond to international migration and its legal regulation. It discusses the development of sovereignty in its original, internal manifestation as a particular way to conceptualise and justify ultimate political authority within the state. The chapter provides a brief overview of the development of theories of sovereignty as a legitimating discourse for ultimate political power within the body politic.
