- W86156912 abstract "Abstract Biologically active metabolites of arachidonic acid (eicosanoids), including prostaglandins and leukotrienes, are best obtained by total synthesis based on new synthetic methods. This article illustrates this point with a variety of examples selected to illustrate new methodology. Included are: 1 A biomimetic synthesis of leukotrienes. 2 A stereospecific synthesis of Z , E , E -trienes as applied to leukotriene B. 3 New methods for carbon-carbon single and triple bond formation as applied to the synthesis of mono acetylenic dehydroarachidonic acids, potent irreversible inhibitors of lipoxygenase enzymes. 4 A synthesis of 5-desoxyleukotrienes utilizing a sulfinyl-stabilized pentadienyl anion and a novel 1, 5-rearrangement of sulfur. 5 A synthesis of trans -homoallylic alcohols from the new reagent lithiomethylenetriphenylphosphorane as a hyper-activated Wittig ylide. 6 An efficient synthesis of a medically interesting prostaglandin D metabolite employing new methods for functional group protection and reduction. 7 Finally, from a different area, new methodology which permits a most direct and effective synthesis of gibberellic acid." @default.
