- W86402509 abstract "Introduction: Constraint induced movement therapy (CIMT) is a current approach to stroke rehabilitation that involves the restraint of the less aected upper extremity, in combination with the practice of repetitive functional tasks with progressive diculty of the more aected upper extremity. Objective: To know and to describe the clinical results of the application of CIMT (traditional or modied) compared with conventional therapy and/or placebo and to identify the dierences between both modalities. In addition, to describe the clinical results obtained according to ictus evolution (acute, subacute or chronic).Material and Methods: Literature review of controlled clinical trials made in the last 10 years from PUBMED, PEDro (physiotherapy Evidence Database) and MEDLINE database. These clinical trials should include adult patients with a clinical diagnostic of stroke with upper extremity paresis. Of 223 studies identied, 24 studies were included to analyze in this review. Results: Results from this review revealed important improves in the motor function of the upper extremity, arm motor impairment, functional independence and quality of life, after the application of CIMT (traditional or modied) when it was compared with conventional therapy and/or placebo. These results have been obtained mainly when the therapy has been applied on subacute and chronic patients. Conclusions: The studies included in this review showed that CIMT (traditional and modied) was an eective therapy for upper extremity treatment especially following subacute and chronic stroke." @default.
