- W8660016 abstract "On the bases of detailed studies made on Canadian lakes Rawson (e.g. 1960) has shown how biological productions (harvest) of plankton, benthos, and fish depend on morphometric, adaphic, and climatic factors. In fact during the last twenty years the relationships existing in lacustrine environments between potential fish harvest and fish catch in particular and physico-chemical factors have received considerable interest from biologists. Among the most favoured indices of productivity were mean depth (e.g. Rawson, 1952, 1955), area (e.g. Rounsefell, 1946), and dissolved nutrients estimated either as total solids (e.g. Rawson, 1951; Northcote & Larkin, 1956) or as total alkalinity(e.g. Moyle, 1956). The dependence on mean depth of fish harvest in african lakes has recently been pointed out by Fryer & Iles (1972)." @default.
