- W8696812 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter examines the cellular secretion associated with human natural killer (NK) cell activity. Active cellular motility and effector-target conjugate formation are necessary prerequisites for the human NK cell mediated lysis. These functions can be considered important in bringing the effector cells into a close proximity with the target cells and are similar in many respects with the requirements on mouse allospecific T-cell killing and mouse NK activities and with the antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity system. The studies are compatible with a suggested role for an active cellular secretion in the lytic step mediated by human NK cells. In the effector–target cell conjugates, an orientation of the effector cell Golgi apparatus occurred toward the contact surface and inhibition of the fusion of Golgi derived vacuoles with the effector cell membrane could prevent lysis. The orientation was apparently specific for large granular lymphocytes (LGL) to cellular targets because binding to sepharose particles or to NK-insensitive target cells was not associated with this phenomenon. There is some evidence suggesting that cytotoxic material is released in the supernatants of dense coincubation cultures of human lymphocytes and NK-sensitive targets." @default.
