- W871930446 abstract "This chapter considers feature of the ongoing use of the imagery of Daniel: its role in the political theology of writers who not only looked forward to a radical transformation of the world predicted by Daniel, but took steps to engineer it in their day. The centerpiece is the writing of the seventeenth century radical, Gerrard Winstanley. The chapter focuses on a small segment of the radical political appropriation of Daniel, which, like the evidence of the Geneva Bible, and offers insights into the way two politically-involved interpreters found apocalyptic discourse of Daniel a potent tool of social critique. The account of this appropriation of Daniel is set in the context of brief biographies, so that the contours of the interpretations of these two radical political interpreters can be set within the framework of the politics with which their exegesis is inextricably intertwined. Keywords: Daniel; Geneva Bible; Gerrard Winstanley; political theology" @default.
