- W880286347 abstract "Bisphenol A is one of the main chemicals used when producing plastic, polycarbonate plastic and epoxy plastic. These plastics are used to produce a variety of products and are often used in materials in contact with food. Bisphenol A leaks out of these materials and enters the body through different pathways, the most common being oral ingestion and absorption through the gastrointestinal tract. Bisphenol A is an endocrine disrupting substance and is also suspected to cause other negative health effects such as cancer and developmental defects. Through the years more studies show the negative effect on animals and in some cases humans. But scientists disagree at which concentration Bisphenol A is a legitimate risk for human health. European Food Safety Authority concluded 2015 that Bisphenol A poses no threat to human health at the current concentration. Despite this has France government decided to ban Bisphenol A in materials in contact with food. This because their risk assessment shows that substance is risk to human health. This study shows that there are possible replacement to Bisphenol A and that they can use be used in materials in contact with food. The main reason why they are not currently used is because there are no optimal alternative to Bisphenol A. But that should not be an acceptable excuse any more. Here I also show that Sweden should follow France and ban Bisphenol A in materials in contact with food. Main reason for this is that majority of studies show the negative effects of Bisphenol A exposure on animals, also because the possible repercussions from exposure are grave. More research is needed on the subject but until a definitive answer is given regarding the effects of chronic exposure, meanwhile should the precautionary principle be adopted to the full and Bisphenol A banned." @default.
