- W891414827 abstract "Lately, there has been active establishment of standards relevant to effective solar heat protection including the installation of external shading devices and others of the kind in order to reduce summertime cooling energy use in office buildings. The objective of this study lies in analyzing the SHGC of overhang and side-fins considering solar geometry with the use of a representative program originated from ISO 15099 called EnergyPlus and extracting a new calculation method considering the correlation. For achievement, a simulation model was set and calculations for SHGC value of each direction was conducted focusing on glass and shading devices. Analysis on extruded length for each solar altitude was conducted for overhang and analysis on extruded length for each solar azimuth was conducted for side-fins. When defining SHGC of external shading device by disregarding previous complicated formulas and introducing the concept of sky opening ratio, the influence of both direct and diffused solar radiation can be considered. In case of overhang, a new correlation formula with deviations of less than 1 % was extracted by introducing the blockage ratio concept of shading devices or sky opening ratio concept of windows. Also, in case of side-fins, it presented very similar SHGC values for all directions and a new correlation formula with deviations of less than 5%, was extracted for all directions with the use of the sky opening ratio." @default.
