- W90521690 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the synthesis and preferential release of newly formed norepinephrine during increased sympathetic activity. Sympathetic nerve stimulation accelerates synthesis of norepinephrine in cat spleen and adrenal gland, mouse heart, and rat salivary gland. Newly formed [14C] norepinephrine appears to be released preferentially. It is found that when vasa deferentia were incubated with phenoxybenzamine, and [14C] tyrosine, stimulation resulted in release of [14C] norepinephrine into the incubation medium. The specific activity of the released catecholamine was three times as high as that found in the tissue. Following exocytosis, the norepinephrine vesicles are again reformed by pinching off from the nerve cell membrane. These postexocytotic vesicles have a normal amount of membrane bound dopamine-β-hydroxylase activity but their soluble contents are diminished, or absent. These emptied vesicles, however, can still take up dopamine from the cytoplasm and synthesize norepinephrine. This newly formed norepinephrine might be weakly bound. It is found that when depolarization occurs, this labile norepinephrine would be released first, as a result of weak binding and/or the proximity of postexocytotic vesicles to the nerve cell membrane." @default.
