- W90658410 abstract "In elevated CO[sub 2], photosynthetic capacity increases for some species and decreases for others. R/S response to CO[sub 2] similarly varies among species. We developed a model to explain such phenomena on basis of relative changes of weight-based leaf (n[sub l]) and plant (n[sub p]) nitrogen concentrations, specific leaf weight (h), and plant nitrogen use efficiency (a). n[sub l] and n[sub p] decreases for all the species we examined, h increases for most species, and a always increases in elevated CO[sub 2]. Relative responses of n[sub l] and h were used to quantify changes in photosynthesis systems and to predict three zones: upregulated, down-regulated, and depressed photosynthesis in elevated CO[sub 2]. Relative responses of n[sub p], h, and a were used to predict a zero-response surface of R/S to elevated CO[sub 2]. A species whose relative changes of n[sub p], h, and a are above the surface tends to have decreased R/S in elevated-CO[sub 2]. Model predictions are highly consistent with data from literature." @default.
