- W91160904 abstract "This chapter reviews the serious and persistent emotional and behavioral obstacles of school- going children and adolescents. It usually comprises the low-incidence problems– such as, autism, anxiety, and depression. In this context, terms such as emotional handicap, behavioral disturbance (BD), severe emotional disturbance (SED), emotional and behavioral disturbance (EBD), and emotional disturbance (ED) have been extensively used to encompass this heterogeneous group of children. Along with these, the myriad problems and long-term social consequences related to childhood ED refer to the importance of assessment practices leading to accurate identification and effective interventions. The chapter also stresses the importance of the Wechsler intelligence scale for children-third edition within the framework of a multimethod–multisource conceptualization of assessment. Detailed assessments have also been made in the chapter to understand the difference in the behavior of children with high and low verbal abilities. The issue of comorbidity is beneficial in this context, as children with more than one psychiatric disorder usually have a more guarded outcome." @default.
