- W91604091 abstract "Publisher SummaryThis chapter investigates the postbuckling behavior of concentrically and eccentrically loaded unilaterally constrained mild steel plates. Plates are not usually perfectly flat, but have small initial curvatures. Plates also have residual stress, and these are caused by uneven cooling after rolling or welding. Both these forms of imperfections have the effect of reducing the ultimate strength of slender plates. They have little influence on thick or stocky plates, or plates classified as compact. Plates bolted to the sides of the concrete beams buckle with a node at the discrete bolt position. However, practical bolt spacings required to achieve the desired degree of shear connection have indicated that the lines between bolts can be treated as nodal lines during buckling, and this has been confirmed experimentally. The influence of bending and axial actions in obtaining the required degree of shear connection tends to be more significant than that of shear. The chapter will provide buckling design interaction chart for a plate with concentric loading to illustrate the effect of postbuckling, and the determination of the empirical initial imperfection and residual stress multipliers." @default.
