- W92169079 abstract "Several pyrethroids are now being extensively used and it is important that the testing programme required by the regulatory bodies is kept in equilibrium with the moving front of knowledge of mechanism of action. The insect/mammal toxicity ratio, the rapid detoxification in mammals and the lack of cumulative action all provide considerable safety factors for their use. It is already clear that existing pyrethroids produce two main types of syndrome in rats and as new structures are produced they should be tested for these actions. Drugs are known which can prevent the symptoms and fatalities but these cannot at present be used. Facial paresthesia is a common complaint and the measurement of increased excitability of nerves requires evaluation as a biological monitoring system for exposure of man. The many biochemical and physiological changes brought about in the nervous system of mammals indicate that as a precaution, exposure of man under medication with neuroactive drugs should be avoided." @default.
