Synthetic insecticide products are mainly used to control whiteflies generally producing toxic residues, problems for applicators and pesticide resistance. essential oils constitute a natural source for pest and disease management strategies and cause no risk to either the environment or human health. the objective of this study was to test the effectiveness of essential oils of Cymbopogon citratus Stapf. (lemongrass) and Laurus nobilis l. (laurel) through the assessment of the repellency and mortality of whiteflies in cultivation of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.). repellency trials were carried out in an experimental cultivation of lettuce grown in greenhouse performing three treatments and a control on randomly distributed plots (each with five repetitions). Mortality was evaluated in laboratory on adult insects placed in glass flasks by performing the same treatments and replicates as relellency test. Applications were made by spraying certain concentration of aqueous solutions of essential oils using an emulsifier. data obtained in repellence and mortality assays were studied statistically by Variance analysis and tukey test with good results respect to the control. repellence test showed significant differences (p‹0.05) between control and lemongrass treatment, and highly 359 BOL.
