- W93903950 abstract "A role for water chlorination in aquatic mutagen production is briefly reviewed. Our studies indicate that swimming pool water, sewage, fish tissue extracts, petroleum and amino acids are candidate substrates for chlorination derived mutagens. This agrees with other recent studies in this area on chlorine disinfected drinking water and chlorine bleached pulp-wood fiber, and supports the hypothesis that chlorination has a large potential for mutagen production at point sources in the aquatic environment. It is speculated that the input of mutagens into the aquatic environment from water chlorination may surpass industrial inputs of mutagenic halogens." @default.
