- W942363485 abstract "Cultured cells have an active cell replication cycle. This cycle consists of pre- and post- DNA synthetic periods (G1 and G2), a DNA-synthetic period (S), and mitosis (M). The time-period required to complete this cycle varies from cell type to cell type. Techniques that will select populations of cells in one or another part of this cycle are of obvious advantage for investigation of biochemical events and regulatory mechanisms, which change with cell growth. At present, there are several methods available for the production and collection of synchronized cell cultures. These methods are almost exclusively aimed at obtaining large numbers of synchronized cells, only a certain percentage of which are actually in synchrony. The technique described here offers almost complete cell synchrony for 72 hours after the cells have been selected. These cells have not been subjected to the harsh treatments that most of the other known procedures have to utilize, and therefore it is possible to observe very small numbers of cells growing in clonal growth." @default.
