- W948721352 abstract "The time-dependent deformations of High Performances Concretes (HPC) are often severely underestimated by the commonly used models which do not consider the characteristics of incorporated materials, in particular aggregates. This paper presents a study on the influence of coarse aggregate characteristics on the deformations of HPC. Six concretes were prepared using the same cement paste but incorporating different types of aggregate to investigate the effect of aggregate properties on the compressive strength, modulus of elasticity (MOE), shrinkage and creep. The results indicate that the aggregate type has significant influence on the deformations. The stiffness and volume fraction of coarse aggregate have an influence on MOE and time-dependent deformations. In addition, the compressive strength of concrete seems to be correlated to the characteristics of the Interfacial Transition Zone (ITZ) which depends on the mineralogical nature and geometrical properties of aggregates. The experimental results were compared with the values calculated using the current Eurocode 2 model in order to assess the accuracy of the predictions.
