- W951981145 abstract "In mid-November last term the Centre for Canadian Studies and the School of English enjoyed a captivating visit from MG Vassanji, author of multiple award-winning works of fiction and non-fiction and member of the Order of Canada. Professor Vassanji gave this year's Annual International Lecture for CCS, titled 'Writing from an In-Between Place'. This personal and compelling lecture highlighted the complexities of his heritage, his search for identity and belonging, and the effects of this background on his writing. Of Indian origin, Vassanji was born in Kenya and raised in Tanzania before going to Canada in 1978.The lecture was very well attended by students and faculty members from multiple schools within the university, and many commented on how much they enjoyed the event. Vassanji was also generous enough to spend time with many members of the Centre and the School in the days surrounding the event, sharing stimulating and insightful conversation with both faculty and students. It was a real privilege for many of us to feel we could begin to get to know him." @default.
