This paper describes how these slopes can be measured and analyzed with a PC to allow the prediction of friction and wear in certain types of contact. The technique is applied to lubricated ground steel surfaces rubbing against copper and aluminium sliders., and to the same surfaces polished to varying degrees. It is found that within experimental error, the predictions agree with the measurments, and that even light polishing can markedly reduce friction and wear, provided that it reduces asperity slopes." @default.
