- W9595961 abstract "On-line analysis for continuous readout of slurry sample composition has developed to a practical application in mineral processing over the past several years. The techniques provide elemental analysis of slurry streams, in conjunction with a system for obtaining continuous flow samples. Both slurry sampling and analysis methods provide means to enhance process control in coal conversion and coal cleaning processes. The purpose of this paper is to outline the potential application of on-stream analysis in the emerging technology of synthetic fuels from coal. The most frequently applied on-stream analytical technique has been x-ray fluorescence, with neutron activation being the second method. X-ray fluorescence has the advantage of higher speed of analysis, and the disadvantage of analytical accuracy being less than neutron activation. The range of elememts that can be analyzed is more narrow by comparison to neutron activation. On the other hand, neutron activation is very slow, has relatively greater health and safety concerns inherent in its application, and is more expensive than XRF." @default.
