- W96256987 abstract "In aerobic cells plasmalogen biosynthesis is accomplished by a microsomal enzyme system (1–5) involving cytochrome b5 (6) and a cyanide sensitive factor (2,5). NAD(P)H or ascorbate and molecular oxygen are essential cofactors. In several instances (2,7,8) stimulation of plasmalogen biosynthesis by soluble factors contained in the 100 000 x g supernatant has been observed. The stimulating factor from pig spleen has been identified as a protein (9) and its function has been compared to that of sterol carrier proteins. Baker et al. (8) reported that the activating factor from Fischer sarcoma cells is catalase. In the present communication the partial purification of soluble stimulating proteins from pig kidney and attempts to explain their mechanism of function are reported." @default.
