- W9646429 abstract "This research examines the metafunctions found in “Cinderella” narrative text taken from “English revolution second edition”. The theory proposed by Halliday (2004) was used as the framework to analyze the metafunctions built in the narrative text of Cinderella. The object of the study was analyzed using descriptive qualitative research as a method of study. There were several steps. First is analyzing the data, second is explaining and the last is construing the contexts of situation built in Cinderella narrative text. The result of the study shows that the processes used in the narrative text are material processes (66.7%), relational, existential and verbal processes. The participants are actor (38.1%), goal, carrier, attribute, sayer, target, existent, possessor, possessed, identified, identifier projected clause and beneficiary: recipient. The kinds of circumstances in Cinderella‟s narrative text: they are circumstance Location (47.4%), accompaniment, manner, Extent, and role. The mood types are unmarked declarative mood (97.2%) and marked declarative mood and the last two theme types: they are topical theme (58.2%) and textual theme. The description of discourse created on Cinderella narrative text concludes that the author is telling the reader about the cruelty of stepmother and two stepsisters to Cinderella and the miracle of Cinderella through the assistance of the fairy godmother. The status is unequal, the social distance is between Cinderella and stepmother and two stepsisters is minimal because they have relationship in family, but it can be maximal because they are always cruel to her, and also shows that the textual meaning is legend story and the role of language is constitutive. The suggestion for the researcher, this is a great knowledge of knowing the way to analyze metafunctions and the readers who read this research needs patience, because to understand this research, we as the readers must read it carefully." @default.
