• W96571896 abstract "Abstract In future central receiver systems, secondary concentrators may make it possible to reach high temperature and to relax design requirements on heliostats. In the course of evaluating the high-flux receiver at the Almeria CRS plant, it was proposed that a terminal concentrator would allow the use of the plant for high flux experiments and at the same time serve to evaluate the concept. When designing such a concentrator, it is necessary to compare the optical behavior of different configurations. To aid this effort, a software package has been developed at the University of Lowell to analyze the optics of secondaries. The main features of the package, which is based on raytracing techniques, are its flexibility and modularity. The program determines the distributin of power absorbed by the reflector walls and incident at the receiver. Preliminary results show that it is possible to increase the concentration ratio by a factor of 2.6 with a considerable flattening of the power profile and an efficiency of 80%.
