- W96588929 abstract "Living systems, as all other material systems, obey the second law of thermodynamics; they can change only in direction of the increase entropy, or the loss of the structural order. Yet, for more than 3 billion years since first appearing on Earth, living organisms are evolving, thriving in sea and land, despite the thermodynamic barrier of the second law. Not that they do nor can defy the second law. They simply circumvent it; they evolved control systems that allow them to maintain their improbable structures, long enough to reach the reproductive ability. The control system detects unavoidable deviations from the norm, generates and sends instructions to effectors to compensate for the lost order. Although living organisms absorb order from the environment through food (sun radiation and CO2 in plants), they transform it into species-specific order before investing it into their structure. Being in possession of information for the normal structure, the living system regulates the normal development in the process of reproduction." @default.
