- W966093018 abstract "Acute phase proteins (APC), well known both as pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory proteins, play an active role in modulating immune responses. The activity of target cells is modulated after joining of the APC to their specific membrane receptors. The APC increase non-specific immune responses by increasing opsonic activity, agglutination and phagocytosis of bacteria, activating the complimentary components (CRP, SAP), and increasing or decreasing chemotaxis of leukocytes (AGP, CRP, SAA, SAP). They are also active in blood coagulation and fibrynolysis, as well as in protecting organisms against losses of iron (AGP, Cp, Hp). The ACP decrease excessive aggregations of platelet (CRP, SAA), participate in the neutralization of proteases released from granules of phagocytic cells (AT, ATC) and they deactivate free radicals (CRP, Cp). By binding chromatin, histones and nuclear rybonucleoproteins during the reparation of damaged cells and tissues, APC inhibit the development of autoimmunological processes (CRP, SAA, SAP). Some representatives of the acute phase proteins can modulate the function of T and B-lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages and the Langer-hans cells (AGP, CRP, Hp). -oreover, they increase the cytotoxic effect of macrophages against neoplastic cells and hence they can inhibit neoplastic metastases (AGP, CRP, Hp)." @default.
