- W966703260 abstract "In recent times, there have been various attempts at refining some of the previously proposed models for time series synthesis. Much of the developments in this regard has taken place without due regard given to the unique nature of the physical problem and without consideration of the origin of data. An ordered set of data in time is called a time series. The discussion in this chapter is specifically concerned with streamflow time series, although, the points of discussion contained herein are of general applicability to other hydrologic time series. Hydrologic time series are described depending on the time interval between successive observations as daily, monthly, and yearly time series. The properties possessed by these time series are different. The yearly streamflow time series has been considered in many cases as a sample from a purely random sequence. However, it may be noted here that such a time series is characterized by groups consisting of values corresponding to spells of flood and drought years. The existence of groups indicates the presence of persistence in these time series." @default.
