- W96690003 abstract "K-mineral bearing felsic intrusions in the Oman ophiolite have been studied for incompatible elements, and Pb, Sr, Nd isotopes. The magmatic bodies (mainly from the Khawr Fakkan massif) represent differentiated tens of meter sized intrusions or metric dikes cross-cutting the ophiolite at mantle level. Metamorphic schists and quartzites having reached anatexis, belonging to the sole of the same massif are also studied for comparison. Both incompatible element and isotopic data indicate that these intrusive bodies are fundamentally different from oceanic plagiogranites. Hygromagmaphile elements are globally depleted relative to oceanic magmas (basalts, gabbros and plagiogranites), but they present a relative enrichment in highly incompatible elements (Th, U and LREE). The least differentiated samples have a V positive anomaly indicative of high oxygen fugacity during genesis. The lead isotopic compositions are characterized by radiogenic lead enrichment 207Pb/204Pb and 206Pb/204Pb range respectively from 15.55 to 15.69, and from 18.48 to 18.76) suggesting the effect of a crustal component similar to that of the metasediments of the metamorphic soles. On the other hand, the initial Sr and Nd isotopic compositions are dominated by a mantle component (87Sr/86Sr = 0.7049 and 143Nd/144Nd = 0.5128). Significant heterogeneities of the isotopic components are observed at the scale of the large body (87Sr/86Sr range from 0.7049 to 0.7081). It is concluded that the K-mineral bearing felsic intrusions in the Oman ophiolite have a mixed (mantle and crustal) origin; melting of the metamorphic sole (amphibolites + quartz pelite sediments) would best account for their genesis." @default.
