- W972534766 abstract "Conditions of tourist movement in the Valley of the Volcanoes in Southern Peru Summary Peru, in particular its southern part is the extremely attractive region. They are located legendary Machu Picchu, Cuzco – capital city of Incas kingdom, Incas Valley, White Town – Arequipa, the Titicaca Lake, the deepest canyon of the world, the Amazon’s sources and others. The next, known poorly and promoted scantily but very attractive in tourist is the Valley of the Volcanoes. It has been so far the purpose of two scientific expeditions of scientists and students of the Department of Geology, Geophysics and the Environmental Protection AGH-UST in 2003 and 2004. Investigations referring to volcanism and possibilities of tourist development in that region were realized. The length of the Valley of the Volcanoes is about 60 km and it is located in Castilla province around 320 km on NW from Arequipa. It is stretching longitudinally between the Nevado Coropuna massif (6425 m asl) and Cordillera Shila (ok. 5600 m asl) on the north and it is lowering from the Altiplano brink (4900-5100 m asl) to the Colca Canyon (1350 m asl) on the south. The Andagua pueblo is situated in the central part of the valley (3600 m asl) – the office of the local authority and the capital of the district. The Valley of the Volcanoes remained unknown through the long span of time. The first photographs of dwarf volcanoes were published in National Geographic in 1934 in the relation of two pilots: Shippe and Johnson who landed in the valley. The valley is inhabited by the nearly 11 000 people. They generally work in mining, sheep and cattle breeding in zone above 3700 m asl and below where the climate is moderate in agriculture. The Valley of the Volcanoes distinguishes the unusual volcanic landscape. It is created by the anisotropic system of tectonic ditches. From the ice age a numerous volcanic eruptions took place here. Braids of lava flows, lava domes and small piroclastic cones are filling the bottom of the valley and they are coming locally from the slopes through sedimentary Mesozoic formations and neogene, explosive volcanic rocks. The oldest forms and deposits of the volcanic Andahua formation are dated for the Pleistocene, intermediate for the late Holocene and the youngest are close to historic times. The valley is characterized by great number and diversity of tourist attractive objects. The most attractive objects in the valley are volcanic forms, from whom a lot of kept one's original form. Relative heights of volcanic cones are oscillating around 100 m, but only single is reaching 300 m. In compare with huge stratovolcanoes which are rising 1-3 km above grounds they deserve to the name of “dwarf volcanoes”. Apart from interesting morphologically volcanoes it is possible to observe other forms of the volcanic activity: lava domes and ribs, eruptive crevasses and lava flows. Other interesting objects in the valley: • Rio Andagua Canyon - narrow on 2-10 m with 20-30 m walls with numerous marmites, meanders and cascades surrounded by narrow shelves of cornfields and savage vegetation, • waterfalls , • the flora represented chiefly by numerous of cacti and fauna with the symbol of the Ands – great condor, • archeological monuments in the form of ruins of incaic and older cultures, • folklore , • Chachas village with the colonial St. Peter church, • Chachas lagoon . The Valley of the Volcanoes is the ideal purpose for the qualified tourism, the trekking, canoe raftings, mountain cycling and fishing. Lacks in tourist infrastructure are compensated by the beauty of the valley, aesthetic experiences as the result from the close contact with the nature. It is not possible to omit the extra advantage of the valley like huge kindness and cordiality of local people. And so the Valley of the Volcanoes is for the ones who are submitting contact with the wild nature to the metropolitan civilization." @default.
