- W973319647 abstract "Objective: To understand the situation of Magu (a mixture of methamphetamine) abuse in Jilin Province. Methods: An investigation and analysis were conducted among 714 Magu abusers who were doing treatment in Jilin detoxification settings or captured by drug control units in 2007 with the Drug Abuse Monitor Survey Questionnaire designed by National Surveillance Center of Drug Abuse. Results: Among the 714 Magu abusers, male accounted for 75.4%, while female 24.6%. The average age of the whole sample was 32.9 a±s 8.7 a, with male 35.4 a±s 7.6 a and female 25.6 a±s 7.7 a, which showed significant difference (P＜0.001) when the average age of male and female compared. For the education, 85.0% of the abusers had middle or lower education. For employment, 59.7% had no job and 32.8% were self-employed; for unemployment, 73.3% female while 55.2% male had no job, which also showed significant difference (P＜0.05) when female and male compared. The main reason for abusing Magu was seeking for euphoria and stimulance (67.9%) and satisfying curiosity (67.4%). Creation sites (60.5%) and peers (51.4%) were the main source for them to get Magu. Temporary living places, hotels, rented houses (62.3%), and singing and dancing halls, bars and playrooms (24.8%) were the main place Magu abuse took place. The average money spent per month by 68.8% abusers was 2000-8000 RMB, with 30.7% male and 17.6% female spent more than 8000 RMB. Almost all abusers (99.3%) use Magu only with 87.8% chasing dragon. Conclusion: Magu is the main drug abused in Jilin Province. Magu abusers have obvious social demographic characteristics and drug abuse behavior. The results suggest that drug abuse education and prevention should be strengthened among middle aged men and young women, and administration for creation sites, temporary living places, hotels and rented houses also should be enhanced." @default.
