- W974663582 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the most common form of discrimination learning that involves the simultaneous presentation of two visual stimuli. It presents an experiment investigating how mice learn simple black/white visual discrimination. A black/white discrimination experiment is one of the simplest to run. The task can be made more difficult by changing the nature of the stimuli. Another way to extend this task is to reverse the positive and negative stimuli after the animals have reached a predefined learning criterion. Thus, animals that had been run with black positive are shifted to white positive. The time it takes to make the shift is an index of the strength of memory of the original learning. The discrimination method is a very effective way to measure simple associative learning processes unrelated to spatial learning and complements the techniques used to measure spatial learning. A computer-program-led Discrimination Learning T-Maze (DLT) has been developed, which aids the researcher in setting up a discrimination experiment, directs the researcher during the course of the study, collects and processes the data, and sends the processed information to a spreadsheet at the completion of a session." @default.
