• W97503781 abstract "Background and Problem: Family businesses are important for the Swedish industry and have a large economic impact on the society. Although there has been notable progress within the science of family businesses over the previous decade there is still much left to explore and develop. We have discovered that implementation of management decisions are a complex process, and because we have come to the insight that family businesses have unique characteristics and that the existence of empirical studies are limited we consider it interesting to link the family business with the implementation process and accordingly give a contribution to both the research of family businesses and the strategy research. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify if family businesses unique characteristics affect the implementation of management decisions and explain how. To achieve that we need an understanding for what the implementation process in family businesses looks like.Method: We have a deductive approach to our study where we have emphasized the theory fields of strategy, organizational change and family businesses. From these theories we highlight the family business specific characteristics that possibly can affect the implementation of management decisions and also a number of factors that exemplifies and affect the implementation process. From the characteristics and the factors propositions was formulated. A qualitative case study was carried out and data were collected through internal documents, observations and a total of 17 interviews, which made the basis for the analysis and conclusions. Conclusion: The result of the study demonstrates that all family business specific characteristics in this study exist in the family businesses that we have examined. We also verified relations between the characteristics and the implementation process, with exception for nepotism. And because of this we found evidence that family business characteristics can have an impact on organizations tendency to change, peoples attitude to the strategic decision plus businesses competitiveness and positioning in the market which in turn effects the implementation process." @default.
