- W97657197 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the use of targeted point mutants in the study of learning and memory. It explains techniques required for generating such point mutations. The generation of targeted point mutations is frequently the only possible approach to (1) accurately model inherited human diseases and (2) test specific molecular models. In many cases the generation of targeted point mutations is the only way for modeling accurately inherited human diseases, since a lot of these diseases result from missense mutations, that is, mutations that change the amino acid sequence. In addition, phenotypic comparisons between targeted disruptions (which lead to a loss of the target protein) and targeted point mutations can deepen the insights into molecular and cellular mechanisms. The generation of targeted point mutants may sometimes be the only possibility for testing specific molecular models. For example, the model that CaMKII acts as a memory molecule" @default.
