- W97884015 abstract "This is the initial report of NACE Tech. Unit Comm. T-1D on this subject. Recommendations are presented to justify a corrosion-control program for protection of sucker rods and couplings from the manufacturer through transportation, storage, installation, and well-servicing operations. Some applications of oil soluble films for protection from atmospheric corrosion are also discussed. Four types of regular methods used for treating rod-type pumping wells are the continuous treatment, circulation treatment, inhibitor displacement method, and squeeze treating method. It is pointed out that the latter 2 methods may control corrosion of exposed casings better than either the circulation or continuous methods, which ordinarily do not treat below the pump. Experience with inhibition treatments and applicable evaluation methods can be used to determine the need for treatment, to select the type of treatment most advantageous, and to adjust the amount and frequency of treatments. The economic payout of treating should be high, and the cost is comparatively low for effective treating, even for some overtreatment which may be excellent insurance against failure, loss of production, and unnecessary pulling costs.
