- W982639747 abstract "Currently there is a clear distinction between the quality levels of public policy among states. This is caused by the different way that State Justices engage in the production and implementation of public policies, with distinct horizontal mechanisms of checks and balances taking action on such a process. Therefor, the present study aims to conduct a comparative analysis between the Judiciaries statewide with respect to the degree of interference on the policymaking process through the measurement of its four main roles (veto player, policy player, referee player and alternative societal representative player) and the observation of causal relationships between these variables and the quality performance of state public policy, reflected in the HDI. The results indicate that a weak interference of the Judiciary in public policy, mainly as a veto player (veto players), is a factor that hampers economic development." @default.
