- W988574059 abstract "Plant machinery has tremendous potential in producing secondary metabolites of therapeutic value. This machinery is activated after exposing it against various responses to produce large amounts of secondary metabolites. Production of these metabolites can be improved by using various strategies. These strategies are broadly classified into classical and nonclassical techniques. Cell suspension, organ, callus, and embryo cultures produced by using in vitro propagation can be used to enhance the yield of secondary metabolites. This yield can be further enhanced by elite species or strain improvement and media optimization. For decades these classical techniques have been used to obtain the desired amount of metabolites. Recent innovations in plant tissue culture have led to the exploration of various other techniques such as elicitation, precursor feeding, cell immobilization, biotransformation, genetic transformation, genetic manipulation, and scale-up including various bioreactors. This chapter comprehensively discusses the utilization of nonclassical or modern techniques to supplement the yield of classical techniques." @default.
