- W991008067 abstract "This chapter focuses on the selection of electronic states in atomic beams with lasers. It presents the state-of-the-research directions both in terms of theoretical and experimental developments. It shows that both aspects may be considered to be in a stage of maturity to handle specific problems satisfactorily. Most experiments using atomic beams deal with “scattering” by light, atoms, molecules, etc. In any case, the most precise possible experiment (with velocity, angle, stale selections) in which an incoming prepared or polarized beam gives rise to several outgoing polarized beams propagating in various directions has to be imagined. Consequently, the question of the uniqueness of the evaluation, which is discussed in the chapter, suffers from this situation. Strictly speaking, the theoretical functions and variables are underdetermined by corresponding relevant experiments. If this problem is reconsidered in a systematic way, a complete set of experiments may be required, which would eventually lead to such a state of maximum possible information from nothing but the experiment." @default.
