- W99716331 abstract "Archive of raw hydroacoustic and accompanying data collected in Pacifc Fisheries Research Center (TINRO) since 1996 is processed for identification of marine organisms on echograms. For this purpose, the general array of acoustic and accompanying data (biological, navigation, oceanographic), in total 8 Tbyte, is transformed to a meta-archive of acoustic images of certain fish species with information on their size, structure of aggregation, maturity, season, site, parameters of trawling, bathymetry, time of day, etc. Using the developed software, files in the meta-archive can be sorted by region (Bering or Okhotsk Sea), by season (winter, spring, summer, autumn), by time of day (day, evening, night, morning), by length of the species, by its percentage in total catch or in catch of certain size group. The meta-archive contains over 4000 fragments of acoustic images (echograms) of walleye pollock, pacific herring, capelin, and arctic cod in various areas of the Bering and Okhotsk Seas, and it is replenished permanently. Typical, repeated fragments of echogram are selected from the meta-archive together with the accompanying data and form a library of typical acoustic images for common commercial fishes of the Bering and Okhotsk Seas. Using this library, possible errors of fish stock assessment by acoustic methods because of wrong identification of echograms are analyzed. Further development of this library and software in direction of automatic recognition of other species and size of on acoustic images is discussed. Automatic identification of echograms provides rapid and reliable assessment of fishery resources using resource-saving acoustic technologies." @default.
